Any magnum with size 5 or 6, maybe 4. 3.5s are good but not necessary at all. If you feel the need to use them for extended range, work on your calling and stealth. +1 Good Comment? The best 12 gauge turkey loads are without a doubt the premium loads made by several companies that contain high density shot. HD patterns better than lead in any gun. That is some good advice from Shane and GS but you asked what is the best LOAD. My experence comes from shooting lots of turkey loads at different ranges. HD is expensive but you won’t use many shells. For example in the last 10 years I have taken 28 birds with 30 shots. (the misses was with lead and one was a fall bird in the air) HD gives you an extra margin for error in range estimation. Also with HD #6 shot has sufficent energy to make larger shot unnecessary unless it patterns better in your particular gun. +3 Good Comment? YES | NO | REPORT from Reid Jones wrote 3 years 31 weeks ago the best 12 gauge turkey load is the one that looks pretty on paper at short distance, mid distance, and a little further out there. 2 years in a row i’ve used Remington Premier High Velocity Mag Copper-Plated Buffered Turkey Loads. quite a mouthful, eh? they were 3 inch, 12 gauge, 1 3/3 oz, 6 shot. and fail me they did not. they worked like magic. on my 15 yard shot, and my 30 yard shot. kicked like a mule but worked like nothing else. that’s what i recommend you try. +1 Good Comment? My first one in the pipe is a no. 4, followed by 2 no. 5’s. I’ve got 4 breasts in the deep-freeze, and 4 drumsticks in the crock-pot right now, and have had similar results since I started hunting turkeys. With today’s technology though, there’s really no “bad” turkey loads I’ve heard of. Remember, the birds were hunted to near extinction in most of North America using 2 3/4″ shells w/lead shot, so even your “cheapest” options will get the job done. +1 Good Comment? YES | NO | REPORT from matouse3 wrote 3 years 31 weeks ago I’ve been using the Federal copper loads, 3.5inch, 5shot for the last 3 years with great success. Good pattern, and good distance. I picked them up cheap after season just to try them out, and now I use them religiously. +1 Good Comment?
