Real Turkey Decoys
Real turkey decoys are the cats meow when it comes to hunting wild turkeys. Real Turkey Decoys are hands down the most effective turkey decoys you can use, and will fool more mature gobblers than any other decoy. But I don’t use them. How come I don’t use Real Turkey Decoys? It is a cost convenience paradigm that switched me away.
Real Turkey Decoys are expensive
Real Turkey Decoys are very expensive. It’s not uncommon to pay over $400 for a professionally done Real Turkey Decoy. It’s a taxidermy mount and they take a ton of time to get together. The man has to make a living right? A quality mount is made for your living room, not the woods. Most of us would not let our kids touch our turkey mounts, but these Real Turkey Decoy manufacturers are asking us to tote them around in the truck from spot to spot, carry them through the wet woods, stick them out in the wind, and invite turkeys to peck, kick and flog them. Be like taking your $400 comforter to the beach. Not a great fit.
Real Turkey Decoys require maintenance
Anybody who has ever had a Real Turkey Decoy screwed to the wall of their house knows they get dusty. When they get dusty, you have to clean them, and when you clean them the feathers start to fall out of place. The start to look like shit and only the taxidermist can get them back in place. But they will get dusty again. Your Real Turkey Decoys will are going to run into problems right out of the gate. Wind, rain, travel and flogging take their toll quickly, and your Real Turkey Decoys don’t look so hot anymore. Todays top end fakes are a better choice DSD, Zink and Dakota all craft high end decoys for 1/4 to 1/2 the price and will last forever. Real Turkey Decoys are great when they are new, but the shine fades quickly so be forewarned. Real Turkey Decoys may not be the best long term choice.
