Albino turkey decoys
If you want an albino turkey decoy there is only one place to buy it. Bestturkeydecoy.com. (okay so thats a lie. I actually found a place that will make a white stuffer it if you really need one) That’s right, Dave Constantine will custom paint any sub specie you want, and in addition to Merriams, Rios, Easterns and Osceolas, he has agreed to do broadbreated whites, slates, bourbon reds and yes, Albino turkey decoys. I have heard guys talk on getting a white or albino turkey decoy after seeing and albino hen on their land, but don’t know of anyone who followed through. Imagine having your very own albino turkey decoy in the back of the truck just in case. Whoa.
Albino turkey decoys are rare
Here is a quote from a guy on a web forum. Remember everything on the internet is true, so you are about to learn something- “Scott Haugen shot a color phase turkey that was mostly white with a little bit of reddish and cream color on the fringes of its wings and tail on it in an episode not all that long ago. The odds of a bird being born with that recessive gene were one in several hundred thousand if I remember right, but they are out there…”
An albino turkey is a rare bird indeed. Once thought to be angels that could not fly high enough by Ben Franklin (that dude who got rocked by lightning on purpose), you just do not see very many. I used to see truckloads of them going down the road late at night. I always assumed that it was a MN DNR stocking program and they were driving the albino turkeys down to Constantine so he could paint them into Easterns to release down in south eastern Minnesota for us to hunt. Turns out they were just Jennie o’s and were about to wade into a couple inches of saltwater that could hold enough electricity to almost knock their feathers off. Ouch.
Back to the albino turkey decoys thing
If you want one Dave will do it. He can paint one to look like a Viking as well. Old school ship sailing or modern purple and yellow and white. He may question your sanity, but this is America, and capitalism says that if you are willing to pay, you can get things. Goofy things. Things like albino turkey decoys.
Best of luck this spring and send me some pictures. Especially if they are with an albino turkey decoy.
